Abstract/Résumé/Resumen
This article discusses the propositions of man to overcome what is visible to him, to appropriate information through the mediation of subjects and devices, pointing to epistemological issues that, in the 20th and 21st centurieshave been raised about the photographic image. It brings concepts and theories that, in the field of Information Science, focuseson the mediation of information and its supports, among them photography, magazines due to modalities and new communication practices made possible by technologies. It addresses aspects of the relationship maintained by photography with culture, its function and social uses and appropriating the heuristic method, it chooses as an empirical object, images of objects from the house of the writer Jorge Amado, recorded in the book Rua Alagoinhas 33, Rio Vermelho. The identification, numbering and summary steps enabled the visual disassembly of the images, the creation of thematic groups and their verbal reassembly, proving that the photographic images, as a device and source of information, can be considered amediating element, whose reading and interpretation signal the socio-cultural relations built by the subjects and enable the creation of new narratives.
