The paper presents data about the participation of the archives in the implementation process of the Access to Information Law, within the entities and bodies of the Federal Executive Branch. Based upon the perspective that records management is a key function to guarantee access to the information contained in records produced by government bodies, this paper identifies and analyzes the obstacles and perspectives of the archival services in the Federal Executive Branch, as players in policies and programs derived from the implementation of the Access to Information Law. Recognizing the archival information as one of the dimensions of government information, records management is identified in the theoretical field as an essential function to guarantee the access to public information. Improvements were observed in the ranking of the archival services inside government structures. Participation of the archives was confirmed in the implementation of the Access to Information Law, although in an incipient manner.
