Jurisdição arquivística e domicílio legal dos documentos são temas ainda pouco explorados pela produção arquivística brasileira, ainda que não sejam poucos os exemplos de fragmentação de conjuntos documentais por diferentes instituições arquivísticas, como também em bibliotecas e museus. Este artigo pretende discutir a importância da história administrativa para o debate em torno do domicílio legal dos documentos, sua contribuição para a identificação desses arquivos e a compreensão das razões e contornos da dispersão, assim como para o estabelecimento de diretrizes metodológicas e políticas para a solução ou diminuição dos problemas decorrentes deste fenômeno.

Archival jurisdiction and legal domicile of documents are topics still little explored by Brazilian archival production even though there are many examples of fragmentation of documentary sets by different archival institutions, as well as in libraries and museums. This article aims to discuss the importance of administrative history for the debate surrounding the legal domicile of documents, its contribution to the identification of these files and the understanding of the reasons and contours of dispersion, as well as to the establishment of methodological and political guidelines for the solution or reduction of problems arising from this
phenomenon.
