Memory Landmarks: oral sources for Science and Technology research in the Institute for Technological Research of the State of São Paulo collection
Abstract/Résumé/Resumen
Many characters were a part of the Institute for Technological Research of the State of São Paulo (IPT) within its 112 years of existence. Anonymous or acknowledged, their history intertwines with IPT’s and composes a network of relations that defines the development of science and technology in Brazil. Beyond official documentation, personal testimonies area able to bring up information that test reports, technical sentences, work plans, minutes of meetings, materials certificates, projects plants and others do not deliver. In order to preserve the data which is not documented on its archives, IPT have been developing since 2002 many activities to increase the collection of its Institute’s Historical Memory sector; this is done by including testimonies through oral history procedures in order to register, transcribe, catalog and make these memories available on the World Wide Web. This initiative is part of the adoption of a collections procurement policy which have been prioritizing the incorporation of archives and personal collections from researchers linked to the Institute’s activities and it seeks to increase the sources of existing researches, improve the searches, and stimulate a culture geared towards the preservations of the Institute’s memory.
