The research activities and document management in Memória da Eletricidade: the electricity sector and the construction of national memory
Abstract/Résumé/Resumen
To implant a complete document management within any institution in the sense of control since the creation of the document to the collection for permanent custody or its elimination is an ongoing challenge. When it comes to institutions that have the survey among its activities-end, becomes even more urgent under penalty of damaging the goals and mission of the institution. This paper aims to reflect on the relationship between the document management and the various documentary types produced by there search activities of the Centro da Memória da Eletricidade no Brasil – Memória da Eletricidade. The objective is to present a case study between the research developed by the Memória da Eletricidade, represented by the steps of preparing the latest book of the institution, entitled “Tocantins River in the eyes of travelers: Landscape, territory and power.” The choice of publication is due, among other factors, by the fact that the book was awarded in 2014in the regional and national stages of the Associação Brasileira de Comunicação Empresarial (Aberje) in the category Special Publication. Memória da Eletricidade is a cultural non-profit organization, established in 1986 by Centrais Elétricas Brasileiras S.A. – Eletrobras with the challenge of demonstrating the importance of the electricity as interference factor in the economic, political and cultural areas and as a land mark in the development of all spheres of social life of the country. Memória da Eletricidade is characterized by the implementation of conservation actions of national heritage developed by the Reference Center for Coordination and by carrying out research on the subject made by the Research Coordination. The Memória da Eletricidade collections consists of personal collections of personalities from the electricity sector; of institutional collections of major companies and a rich collection of books with technical and academic works on the construction of power plants and the national energy scenery. Our institution develops, encourages and supports regional and national projects in the fields of historiography, oral history, information systems, technical memory, treatment and reference of historical documents, implementation of cultural units and production of exhibitions, adding forces with companies and agencies of the electricity sector, seeking to build closer links between the industry and the society in general. The research project for the publication “Tocantins River in the eyes of travelers: Landscape, territory and power” in 2014, began in November 2010. At that time, documents from various genres, and media types were produced (letters, projects, reports, receipts, making prices, among others). Just then the document management becomes crucial to safeguard the entire research process. The documents were classified according to archival principles which call for document production function and not their type or support. The Classification Code of Activities-end is under preparation as well as updating the Classification Code of Activities-half and both are based on the functions and activities carried on by the Memória da Eletricidade. This entire management process will be further explained throughout the work.
