Abstract/Résumé/Resumen
Considering that the relations between Brazil and France include a secular exchange of political, economic and cultural aspects and that this collaboration can also be observed in the archival context, this article aims to present the practices that preceded the promulgation of the Law of Archives in both countries and the movements that supported the recognition of private archives as of scientific and social interest. Therefore, it precedes a documentary and bibliographical research on the subject. Thus, it is observed that for a long time there was a difficulty in defining the forms of constitution, treatment and access to private archives, which allows us to conclude that the recognition of the importance of these collections in Brazil and France is related to the development of practices. from the twentieth century.
