Abstract/Résumé/Resumen
The recourse to the land data of Rio de Janeiro, preserved at the Arquivo Nacional [National Archives of Brazil], elucidated questions opened since the discovery of the Cemitério de Pretos Novos do Valongo [Newcomer Slaves Burial Ground of Valongo] in 1996, with emphasis on its beginning date, dimensions, urban situation, and relation with Santa Rita Parish. The cemetery was part of the slavery complex in the suburban area of Rio de Janeiro between 1774 and 1831.
