This article reports the impacts caused by the expansion of History and academic research on archives and the archivists methods of work in Western Europe and North America, originated by the new approaches of History and the affirmation of interdisciplinarity.
The new historians diversity of interests and the development of new technologies in records reproduction demandes the archivists new postures regarding the tasks of arrangement and implementation of modern research instruments.
