Vulnerability of Scientific Collections
Abstract/Résumé/Resumen
The practice of preservation of scientific collections has specific characteristics that must be considered: the damage of information as one of the items of vulnerability; the demand of the dialogue between the areas responsible for research, organization and conservation of collections; and the scope of coordination of scientific collections management projects. Documentation, such as Preventive Conservation Protocol, is discussed in this article as a fundamental principle for the management of scientific collections. The science of conservation, in virtue of its amplitude, widens the field of Preventive Conservation as an area of action guided by the strategic concept that brings together different skills necessary for the practice of a management policy for the preservation of collections. The perception of informational vulnerability implies scientific holdings in creating important documentary management protocols that cover all the areas involved and are indispensable to the development of conservation Diagnostics and diagnostics of risk, as well as in conducting projects aimed at preventive conservation of collections. The deployment of these projects should understand this vulnerability in all its phases. The dialogue between scientists and professionals is primary factor for the definition of the systems, priorities and guiding principles that can minimize the risks of decoupling informational, keeping the voice and the research potential of the scientific collections.
