MANY PEOPLE WITHOUT LAND, MUCH LAND WITHOUT PEOPLE: UNDERSTANDING THE DIGITAL COLLECTION OF THE MEMORIAL OF THE PEASANT LEAGUES AND STRUGGLES, IN PARAÍBA
Abstract/Résumé/Resumen
This article investigates the digital collection of the Memorial das Ligas e Lutas Camponesas (Memorial of Peasant Leagues and Struggles) in Paraíba, with the aim of understanding its origin and organization. It is based on literature in the field, understanding memory and archives as a field of power, with political and social disputes. Methodologically, it is an applied, descriptive, qualitative, bibliographic, and documentary research, whose analysis was based on the content available on the Memorial’s website. The results indicate that the collection was built collaboratively, through various sources and actors, reflecting a political movement that contributes to social justice by preserving the memory of rural workers’ struggles. It is concluded that the Memorial can be understood as a community archive, and that this connotation, in addition to promoting the theoretical-conceptual category in the field of Archival Science, should reflect on how the area can approach communities that, through legitimate knowledge and narratives, deal with their documents.
