Created in 1981as part of the project to modernize the National Archives, the research group Memória da Administração Pública Brasileira (MAPA) initially aimed to meet the technical areas in the process of identifying and organizing the sets of documents held by the institution. This article presents the institutional trajectory of this pioneering experience, the construction of its own methodology, sought to portray the administrative dynamics and its constant transformations, thus providing a rigorous and standardized record of the organization of the central government and the federal Executive Power in different historical moments, and the creation of a database on the subject
