The functional approach to classification tools is an idea that is more than eighty years old. The aim of this article is to analyze the main problems in using the functional approach to classification of archival documents. The research is applied and qualitative in nature with regard to the approach to the problem, and involves the methodology for using the function-al approach, the actual functional experiences, the conceptual issues, and the difficulties of users.
