Procura-se, no diálogo com outras áreas do conhecimento humano, verificar a possibilidade de construção de um novo marco referencial para o tratamento da classificação de documentos arquivísticos. O pressuposto é que o arcabouço teórico-metodológico da área não consegue resolver as questões impostas pela grande massa de documentos acumulada diariamente pelas organizações contemporâneas, pela disseminação das novas tecnologias e pelo desenvolvimento social. A classificação é uma operação matricial de todo o trabalho arquivístico e é, também, um elemento importante para a transparência e compartilhamento de informações, que são caminhos seguros para a tomada de decisão, para preservação da memória técnica e administrativa das instituições contemporâneas e para o pleno exercício da cidadania.
This paper aims at establishing a new landmark as far as the study of classification for archival documents is concerned. This study is largely interdisciplinary, looking for the foundations of classification in other areas of human knowledge. Our main presupposition is that the theoretical and methodological structure of classification is not adequate to solve most of the problems imposed by the great mass of documents gathered every day by modern organizations, by the dissemination of new technologies, and by social development. Classification is a matrix operation of all the archival operations. It is also an important element for the transparency and sharing of information: these are straight lines towards decision making for the preservation of technical and administrative memory of modern institutions and for the full improvement of citizenship.
