Os retrocessos nas políticas ambientais no Brasil entre 2019 e 2022 demonstraram que essa questão faz parte da agenda de defesa dos direitos humanos, em especial o direito de acesso à informação. O artigo analisa documentos de organismos internacionais e legislações do Brasil buscando identificar como o direito de acesso às informações ambientais vão aparecendo nesses textos. Conclui que desde os anos 1980 a questão do direito às informações ambientais já está presente na legislação brasileira e que a associação mais evidente entre direito de acesso às informações ambientais e os direitos humanos se consolida nos Programas Nacionais de Direitos Humanos II e III e que os documentos internacionais vão, paulatinamente, associando direito ambiental como um direito fundamental e ao qual está ligado o direito de acesso às informações sobre o meio ambiente.
THE RIGHT TO ACCESS TO INFORMATION ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT IN BRAZIL: an approach from the perspective of human rights

The setbacks in environmental policies in Brazil between 2019 and 2022 demonstrated that this issue is part of the human rights defense agenda, especially the right to access to information. The article analyzes documents from international organizations and legislation in Brazil, seeking to identify how the right to access environmental information appears in these texts. It concludes that since the 1980s the issue of the right to environmental information has already been present in Brazilian legislation and that the most evident association between the right of access to environmental information and human rights is consolidated in the National Human Rights Programs II and III and that the International documents are gradually associating environmental rights with the right of access to information about the environment.
