Este texto é uma síntese da pesquisa que foi desenvolvida para a conclusão do Curso de História, realizado na Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais. O objetivo central é abordar a história da Comunidade Muçulmana de Belo Horizonte e definir os fatores que contribuíram para o surgimento de uma mesquita na cidade. Para isso, foi necessário mergulhar nos arquivos da cidade com a finalidade de obter dados oficiais para o estudo. Além disso, foram realizadas uma série de entrevistas com imigrantes muçulmanos com a tentativa de resgatar registros pessoais e comunitários de uma imigração tão complexa como a árabe. Já com os brasileiros, as entrevistas buscaram entender os motivos da conversão a uma religião pouco divulgada no Brasil.
Islamism in Belo Horizonte: the history of muslims, arabs and brazilians, in capital mineira (1962-2012)

This text is a summary of the research that has been developed for completing the Course of History, held at the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais. The main objective is to address the history of the Muslim Community of Belo Horizonte and to define the factors that contributed to the emergence of a mosque in the city. For this it was necessary to dive in the archives of the city in order to obtain official data for the study. In addition, a series of interviews with Muslim immigrants to attempt to rescue personal and community records of such a complex immigration as the Arab were performed. With the Brazilians, the interviews sought to understand the reasons for conversion to a religion little known in Brazil.
