A abordagem do uso da informação produzida pela administração municipal (patrimônio informacional arquivístico) pode ser vista, ainda hoje, como objeto pouco familiar à área de Arquivologia, já que a maior parte dos estudos no Brasil e no exterior volta-se para interfaces mais tradicionais da área arquivística, como, por exemplo, as técnicas e métodos de tratamento de acervos, automação de rotinas, elaboração de instrumentos de pesquisa etc. Tal lacuna acaba por dificultar a investigação do assunto na realidade brasileira, razão pela qual a autora decidiu elaborar o presente artigo, associando sua experiência no campo arquivístico ao instrumental teórico-conceitual oferecido pelas áreas de Ciência da Informação e Administração, selecionando aspectos considerados relevantes para o entendimento da relação informação arquivística governamental (memória oficial) e história administrativa, tomando como referência o acervo do Arquivo Geral da Cidade do Rio de Janeiro.
The approach concerning use of information produced by the municipal administration (archive informational heritage) may be seen, to the present day, as a rather unfamiliar subject in the field of Archival science, considering that the majority of studies both in Brazil and abroad seek the more traditional interfaces in the archivist field such as, for example, the techniques and methods for archive treatment, automation of routines, conceiving research instruments etc. This failing renders investigating the subject more difficult within the present Brazilian reality and thus prompted the author to produce the present article, by combining her experience in the archival field with the theoretical and conceptual instrument offered by the areas of Information Science and Management, through the selection of aspects considered pertinent to the full understanding of the relationship between government archival information (official legacy) and administrative history. It uses as reference the General Archives of the City of Rio de Janeiro.
