O artigo apresenta uma reflexão sobre as motivações de indivíduos em colecionar e organizar acervos privados sobre a escravidão no Brasil, bem como oferece a perspectiva dos estudos biográficos dos africanos na diáspora como uma possibilidade metodológica de rompimento do desejo de controle sobre o que interessa lembrar e esquecer. Pensa a memória coletiva por meio do poder de decisão sobre a história que poderá ser contada pela privatização de fontes e documentos sobre o tema da escravidão.
Slavery, privatization and democratization of the uses of memory in the testimonies of Africans in the diaspora

The article presents a reflection on the motivations of individuals in collecting and organizing private collections about slavery in Brazil, as well as offering the perspective of biographical studies of Africans in the diaspora as a methodological possibility of breaking the desire for control over what matters to remember and forget. Thinks about collective memory through the power of decision over the history that can be told by the privatization of sources and documents on the subject of slavery.
