Este artigo analisa o papel que os arquivos, a crítica documental e a elaboração de narrativas históricas desempenharam nas atividades diplomáticas brasileiras na virada do século XIX ao XX. Procura, em especial, compreender as intenções, realizações e dificuldades práticas enfrentadas pela comissão nomeada em 1903 para reorganizar os acervos do Ministério das Relações Exteriores, por iniciativa do barão do Rio Branco e sob a coordenação de Antonio Jansen do Paço.

It specifically aims to understand the intentions, achievements, and practical challenges encountered by the commission appointed in 1903 to reorganize the archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, initiated by the baron of Rio Branco and
coordinated by Antonio Jansen do Paço.
