Benta Pereira e Maria da Cruz foram protagonistas de revoltas na América Portuguesa durante o século XVIII. A primeira atuou num levante em Campos dos Goitacazes, na capitania da Paraíba do Sul em 1748 e a segunda numa sedição no sertão, capitania de Minas Gerais em 1736. Este trabalho busca refletir sobre as relações entre o fazer historiográfico e as práticas de investigação sob a perspectiva de gênero, a partir do estudo de caso das duas mulheres rebeldes. O objetivo é mostrar, através de nossa experiência de pesquisa, como os arquivos podem ser meios para se encontrar as mulheres inseridas na vida política e social de uma época. Ao mesmo tempo reflete sobre caminhos metodológicos para se pensar as fronteiras entre mulheres, pesquisa e revoltas no período colonial.

Benta Pereira and Maria da Cruz were the protagonists of revolts in Portuguese America during the 18th century. The first acted in an uprising in Campos dos Goitacazes, in the captaincy of Paraíba do Sul in 1748 and the second in a sedition in the interior of Minas Gerais, in the captaincy of Minas Gerais in 1736. This work seeks to reflect on the relationship between historiography and research practices, perspectives from the case study of the two rebellious women. Our objective is to show, through our research experience, how archives can be instruments where it is possible to find women inserted in the political and social life of a determined period. At the same time, it reflects on methodological ways to think about the borders between women, research and revolts in the colonial period.
