O autor analisa a essência da expansão da fotografia além da capital do Império e o papel do ateliê fotográfico como espaço de representação e de produção de memória. As técnicas e materiais utilizados pelos artífices da imagem e a rapidez com que esse modelo europeu de representação se difundiu, principalmente a partir da década de 1860, são as linhas de investigação deste artigo.
The author analyses the importance of the spread of photography beyond the capital of the Brazilian Empire and the role of the studios as a space of representation and production of memory. The techniques and materials used by the producers of image and how fast this European model of representation has spread, mainly after the 1860’s, are the lines of investigation of this article.
