O artigo apresenta um cenário de atuação do arquivista num contexto de efervescência da memória, da memória como objeto de desejo, de dever de memória, da patrimonialização e de preocupações com a ordem e a aceleração do tempo, que estariam constituindo para os arquivos um contexto de projeção social. O trabalho do arquivista contribui para sua auto identificação como sujeito e agente da historicidade, como formador da memória e promotor da visão do arquivo como resultado da experiência humana. Se os arquivistas forem capazes de identificar e de se identificar nesse contexto, a proeminência do seu fazer e o poder dos arquivos estarão contribuindo para que a sociedade, por meio dos arquivos, possa identificar-se, produzir sentido, revelar a justiça e tomar conhecimento dos fatos, principalmente os traumáticos e sensíveis.
The role of the archivist between the duty to memory and the desire to archive
Abstract/Résumé/Resumen
This article presents a scenario in which the archivist operates in a context of effervescent memory, of memory as an object of desire, of duty to memory, of patrimonialisation and concerns with order and accelerating time, a context that we see placing archives in a socially prominent position. Archivists’ work also contributes to their self-identification as subjects and agents of historicity, as founders of memory and also as advocates of the view that archives are outcomes of human experience. Accordingly if archivists are able to identify themselves and others in that context, the prominence of their work and the power of archives will be helping society, through archives, to identify itself, produce meaning, reveal justice and learn the facts, particularly those that are most traumatic and sensitive.
