Esse artigo busca discutir e relacionar os processos de Organização e Representação da Informação e do Conhecimento (ORIC) com as funções de classificação e descrição arquivística. Discorre sobre como a representação ocorre nessas duas funções, seus processos, e produtos. Para isso desenvolveu-se uma pesquisa qualitativa, teórica e bibliográfica, que partiu especialmente da literatura científica brasileira e de autores internacionais que contribuem para esse entendimento. Para a análise, adotou-se a proposta de Bräscher e Café (2008, 2010), que distinguem Organização e Representação da informação (ORI) e Organização e Representação do Conhecimento (ORC). Os resultados mostram que a abordagem pós-moderna da arquivologia apresenta uma nova forma de pensar o contexto de produção, organização e representação dos documentos arquivísticos e que isso se reflete nas funções de classificação e descrição. A organização e representação da informação são mais marcantes na descrição, enquanto a organização e representação do conhecimento se aplicam à classificação, de forma mais evidente. Concorda-se que a organização e representação da informação e do conhecimento em documentos arquivísticos têm bases teóricas e metodológicas comuns à Ciência da Informação.
Archival classification and description as activities of organizational and representation of information and knowledge

This article seeks to discuss and relate the processes of Organization and Representation of Information and Knowledge (ORIC) with the functions of classification and description occurring within the scope of Archival Science, showing how this representation occurs in these two functions, their processes and products. For this, a qualitative, theoretical and bibliographical research was developed, starting from the Brazilian scientific literature and from international authors that contribute to this development. For the analysis, the proposal of Bräscher and Café (2008, 2010), which distinguishes Organization and Representation of Information (ORI) from Organization and Representation of Knowledge (ORC), was adopted. The results show the postmodern approach presents a new way of thinking about the context of production, organization and representation of archival documents and that this is reflected in the functions of classification and archival description. The organization and representation of information are more marked in the description, while the organization and representation of knowledge apply to classification more clearly. It is agreed that the organization and representation of information and knowledge in archival documents have theoretical and methodological bases common to Information Science.
