Presents work in progress on the analysis of the research documentation collected to the institutional archives of the Museum of Astronomy and Related Sciences (MAST). Considers the researchers autonomy regarding the documents produced under their responsibility. Reports experiences of preservation of documents generated by the research activity and the importance of the records for the history of science. Outlines a brief history of the Museum records production and the construction of the Classification Code and the Records Table of Temporality for the institution. Presents the class “research” at the Classification Code, with its subclasses, and examples of documentary collection types collected to the archives.
