This article reports the impact caused by the expansion of History and academic research on archives and the archivists' methods of work in Western Europe and North America, stemming from new approaches in History and the affirmation of interdisciplinarity. The diverse interests of the new historians and the development of new technologies in records reproduction have led archivists to adopt new approaches to the tasks of arrangement and implementation of modern research instruments. The author provides insights and advice for professionals in countries that have not yet undergone this process.
